Summary and Notes
Defensive and Arrest Tactics (DAAT), is the training guide for officers regarding when and how to use physical force in certain situations.
DAAT provides the basis for proper use of force by Wisconsin law enforcement officers.
Relevant Excerpt
In the Disturbance Resolution portion of the DAAT, "Intervention" options fall into five categories, each covering tactics with a different purpose: Presence, Dialog, Control alternatives, Protective alternatives, Deadly Force. (pg.29)
The system includes verbalization skills, coupled with physical alternatives.
This means officers are expected to initially achieve control through talking, and to use physical force only if talking does not work or would not work in a given situation.
